Ring of Fire
I know I told you about how my weekend started with Eva popping into the Atelier, but I forgot to point out how her fingernail color was outstanding in the filtered skylight-glow of dusk.
Then, on Saturday, Daniel Brodo drove a truck load of my paintings up from the Kristi Engle Gallery. You probably recognize Daniel as the bass player for Refrigerator.
Actually, Daniel was understandably distracted this weekend by constant text updates as the singer of his band was receiving a new heart.
Also, we had to take some time out to watch the solar eclipse of course.
But finally, Kevin's sculpture workshop was over and the two guys got to sit down and talk about the third dimension. . . and fine art. . . and post structuralism.
The talking moved to The Playwright where we were joined by Julie O, Matthew, and Claire.
I didn't have time to credit Claire's sculpture in a previous post. And it has been six years since I have done a fancy studio visit to Matthew's work space. Maybe this whole Atelier LaRose thing will get me back in the swing.

So there I was: uploading four pictures from my phone
The first one I remember taking while Doctor Boo was visiting recently. I didn't want to wait until Valentines Day, sooo. . . you saw it here first.
But tonight. . .
Tonight Kevin, who is beginning the presentation of his three-day-sculpture-workshop tomorrow, can be found making 12 armatures for his students.
And yes, that is the high temperature flame of acetylene gas that is trapped between his legs.
Kevin is doing some very important prep work for each of his students.
Never underestimate the value of your first step,
Like Harry says: "House built on a weak foundation. . ."
I think I have the objects for my first still life study in the new space.
Also, Gabe and Rachel uncovered a painting of mine from the last century that goes perfect with the kitchen table.
(note that each of Kevin's students will be standing on a foam pad, in front of an adjustable stand with a prepared and calibrated armature)

Atelier lowdown
So there I was, hoisting an unwieldy hunk of a flat file frame up into the loft section of the new Atelier LaRose when I thought:
"I better get a picture of this before the rope snaps in my face all Jonah Hex style"
and "How do you really say "atelier"?

Things are taking shape, in a soft way
We started the move into Atelier LaRose this week. There was room for a band practice before a gathering we are having tomorrow and I was also able to throw some paintings on a wall in order to get a sense of scale. The best part was when Zaida discovered the trampoline in the adjoining yard.
