Blogs F-H

"Thinking about it, the blogs I follow these days have much more to do about seeing where the person is going and thinking and much less about the product of their efforts." So says Marc Snyder, the fella in charge of the blog Fiji Island Mermaid Press.
Marc pointed me towards a fine example with Slice Harvester, a blog that follows" some shmuck who plans to eat a slice at every NYC pizzeria". . . and blog about it. One of my favorite side projects of Marc's (besides 10,00 Pixels which I contributed to briefly) is his daughter's blog Rachel Draws a Lot (which I actually subscribe to, so I am technically posting it out of alphabetical sequence). But Marc's point is well taken. Most of us struggle for brief moments of artfulness in our lives. I like to see that human quality of struggle. Their art is less important. As for the few who are able to maintain a consistently high level of art, I love to see their awkward struggles with being human. There is nothing better than when a genius trusts you enough to let down their guard.

That explains why I rarely check in with Flotsam and Jetsam. Not only don't they post often, but it is a 100% image dump (albeit kinda interesting sometimes). Harold Hollingsworth is dumping a lot of images lately too:
But at least Harold also supplies soundtracks: Thee Oh Sees - Broken Stems.mp3
To be fair, Harold, is a facebook friend and I can keep up with his life over there. But it brings up the point that fcbk sort of pulled the rug out from under the blogosphere. I'm not talking about the bloggers who broadcast to enormous audiences, but those who were maintaining a manageable mid-size community of givers and takers.
Christoper Saunders over at High Low and in Between was one of the first bloggers that I felt a sense of community with. Imagine, this was almost five years ago. He has been through a lot, and his blog waxes and wanes, but it is always there, pushing, promoting, and pontificating, even when at a trickle.

New Landscape

I've been clocking a bit of horizontal time this week.
Trying not to make a "closure" pun.
Narcotics don't "foil" gas pain.
I've missed a lot this summer.
En garde Fall.

More blogs D-E

David D'Andrade Works on Paper blog is more of a showcase of David's work. No story here, just cut and paste madness. . . with some level adjusting. . . and some composing. . .

Drawn! is a collaborative weblog for illustrators, artists, cartoonists, and anyone who likes to draw, and that is why I like it. I'm OK with there being nobody at the helm, because there is such great stuff to look at.

I really enjoy most of Elizabeth Reed's drawings. Her blog is also a fantastic link source that she keeps adding to. But, again, very little background or Elizabeth as a person. Is that what I expect from a blog? Person-ness? Eva is a person. Her blog too has become less of a connection with Eva, and more of a forum for her KBOO radio show. Still, there are snippets into her life and her perspective on things is always enjoyable.
