Art is found in Death, Underwear, and Rainbows. What is an artist? Everywhere.Everywhere that humans make shit.
The science of theory and the art of synchronised platform diving.
Engineers can be artisans. Artifacts were manufactured goods.
I've been in a slump this week. I've been wallowing in everyday life. The notion of "awe" seems so . . . unreal, elite, pretentious, crazy, irresponsible.
Because my paintings are soundly constructed out of wood, you could easily form a shelter out of a few of them. All of my paintings contain a chemical known to the State of California to cause cancer, birth defects or other reproductive harm. Paintings are not food.
All we are left with is communication.
My slump manifests itself as the fulcrum between luxury and necessity.

Is it ok that a good painting is merely a temporary release? Fuck. Why is joie de vivre so dangerous (other than its disregard for future generations)?

I think that, just like any job, supporting oneself via painting/art will contain some moments of selling out- key word here is sell. And if people buy it, then good. I think, in an artist's hands, even a craft would be art- so I don't think you need to worry about it. Because your hands are golden.
Nice sound clip (sound clip? byte?). I don't mind that I make paintings, I don't feel much need to justify the activity, but I kinda sorta really hate paintings as objects. I don't like the type of object which they are in the world. It's an issue....
'Everyday life' is as poetic as it gets.

Golden hands only go so far in a small town. The hyperbole is appreciated nonetheless Ms. B.
Point well taken, and shared Carla. I suppose my next post should be about my day job. (btw have you other folks seen Carla's mural over at her blog?)
You said it Jason. It is too bad that Painting and Drawing have found themselves upon a pedestal these days.
I'm going to go prepare the driveway for a delivery of three-quarter-minus gravel.
Thanks you three.
Oh, and the song is by the Fugs.
Brilliant post!!
I think art is essentially a transmission... from one surface to another... hence Death, Underwear and Rainbows all become (instruments of) art.
"I'm going to go prepare the driveway for a delivery of three-quarter-minus gravel."
...as an alternative art medium to painting?
Ha- preparing the ground is essential!
Transmissions, I like that MAHARAJADHIRAJ
Never under-estimate the value of the first step ms. B, surface prep is essential, ain't that the truth.
Paintings as surface transmissions.
Prepping the surface of our driveway so that I can lay pavers.
When I paint, I often make a droplet and then see how far I can extend or stretch the puddle. With our driveway, I am trying to control or coral the water into a focused point. It may not be an alternative to painting but it is certainly an antithesis.
