"Congratulations! We have considered your proposal and have assigned you a gallery space during the Fall quarter"
"Steven, your show will be October 20 - November 15 in the Thorndike Gallery. Your reception date is October 23, 2008"
Sorry. If you "think ego and individualism makes art less interesting", and that "mining the individual self for meaning is, first and foremost, a total fucking bore in our confessional, therapeutic (I would say Sextonesque) culture" (source) then you probably don't frequent this blog anyhoo. But I must say again, sorry. I've got a new goal. I've got twelve new surfaces that I've built. I'm gonna keep blogging. I, I, I!
oh,
and p.s.
Jacques de Beaufort has already agreed to write some words for this show.

Great news Steven! Congrats.
Where is this gallery?
Ex-cit-ing. This last month, I've allowed other things to interrupt studio work. My next step is so simple, prepare some supports.
I want a pile of blanks like that.
I,I,I,....
Oh duh, thanks Tracy, its on the campus of Southern Oregon University, here in Ashland. No shipping costs! No pressure for sales!
Carla, I know some people don't like this phase, the support building phase, in fact, I'm fairly certain that Tracy said she prefers to out-source hers. I understand, when one is as successful as Tracy, that it simply is a time eater, but as it is for me, me, me, I enjoy the meditative factory work. This time I've even put TWO coats of tinted sealer on the backs of these. I learned my lesson after the last show: Never underestimate what might become an interesting piece and so never settle for shoddy supports.
Did I say thanks you two?
It's not so much that I, personally, don't like the support-building phase, as it is that I'm really bad at it. Also I don't have the proper tools.
This is great, congratulations.
I am bummed I probably won't get to be there, yet stoked about watching this unfold via blog.
GO!
good going bro!
I am flattered, Steven, that you used the term successful to describe me, me, me, but really it should just be "busy", plus a little of what Chris said-I would be bad at making supports and I don't have the right equipment:)
Anyway, yes, very cool that this is a local show for you, but too bad for those of us that live 3000 miles away and probably can't see the show.
Try for a NY show next time, just for me, 'kay?
Congratulations, Steve!
Gee I would love to come down for it...
Eva
Congratulations, Steven. This is inspiring news. We're hoping to make the drive up.
Congratulations, that's great!
I like those times in the process that make you slow down and give you a chance to just sort of drift. I even like graining litho stones - when you start making an image you feel like you kind of earned it somehow. . .
Thanks everybody. What an eclectic group. We could probably fit all visitors in the back yard. . . in some tents.
congrats ! well done laddy
12 new surfaces. very exciting. congrats!
