Yeah, yeah, yeah. But look at the color and texture of the book cover. It has the grain and banding of a So-Ami landscape painting from the 16th century. I'm going to start making some surfaces like this to do my drawings on. It looks so warm with the warp and woof of the weave... and then the brush-like font is screened thickly on. It is a great tension. Spontaneous cursive, stylised energy, embosed in a rich green boardering on purple.
I don't think that I have ever opened the book. It was written by Arthur Zaidenberg in 1942. Here is the first sentence from the introduction: "The condition of the world today, with its economic distress and international conflict, has focused the attention of the American public upon its own cultural heritages." Most of the book is quaint and interesting like playing Pong. A tube of Windsor Newton Cerulean Blue oil paint is listed for $1.50!
I absolutely love books from this era, they really don't make them like this any longer...oh, and I like the idea of re-creating this as a surface to work upon, do it!
I was driving home from a painting drop-off and I was getting myself all excited about how to make a beutiful surface like this. The tumblers are falling into place. Thanks for the link at your recent post.
